About this interactive course

This FAA WINGS-credited webinar provides pilots and aviation professionals with a comprehensive understanding of collision avoidance technologies that protect our national airspace. Explore the regulatory evolution from the 1952 introduction of radar through modern systems including transponders, TCAS, ADS-B, and peer-to-peer FARM technology. Learn how these systems work, their limitations, and their critical role in maintaining separation—especially for general aviation and glider operations. Understand the real-world accidents that drove regulatory change and the practical implications for your flying operations.

Frequently asked

Is this webinar eligible for FAA WINGS credit?

Yes. This is a live FAA WINGS-credited seminar. Only attendance at the live session qualifies for credit; viewing the recording afterward does not. You must complete the embedded knowledge checkpoints and pass the final graded assessment (70% minimum) to receive credit.

How long is the webinar?

The webinar runs between 1.5 and 2 hours, including the introduction, two knowledge checkpoints, and the final assessment. Plan accordingly and ensure you have uninterrupted time to complete the full session.

Do I need a transponder or ADS-B to benefit from this course?

No. This course is designed for all pilots, including glider pilots who are exempt from transponder and ADS-B requirements. You will learn how these systems work, their limitations, and how to operate safely whether or not your aircraft is equipped.

What if I don't pass the final assessment on my first attempt?

You may retake the assessment. Review the course material and the knowledge checkpoint questions to identify areas needing reinforcement, then attempt the final assessment again. You must achieve 70% to pass and earn credit.

Will I receive a certificate or credit documentation?

Yes. Upon successful completion (70% on the final assessment), your credit will be recorded in the FAA WINGS system and you will receive documentation suitable for your pilot records and logbook.

Can I download the slides and recording?

Yes. SSA members can download the slides and recording from the SSA website using their member ID. Note that viewing the recording is not eligible for WINGS credit; only live attendance qualifies.
